In current times, discussion about the loss of human touch in social (media) communications is omnipresent. The Internet has created a huge
divide between emotions and communications. How many times have you ROFLed with a straight face? How many times have you shown surprise just by
sending an emoticon? Our life has become a series of straight faces staring at screens. True Emoji, our in-house product, was created with the intention
of bridging this divide.
It is time to take virtual communication to the next level. True Emoji is an app which reads the user’s emotions, recognizes it and clicks their picture with the appropriate emoji. This is then used to create a personalized emoji keyboard which can be used in all message conversations to communicate intended emotion.
This was a project which was new in every aspect- right from the idea, to use-case to technology to the platform. It brought along several challenges at every stage. It took several brainstorming session to convince ourselves about the validity of the project and AI led tech propped up challenges everyday. Once convinced we were able to navigate our way through the initial bottlenecks and bring many collaborators on board. Since it was a Webbies product, the launch and customer onboarding lay all in our hands completely.
The basis of the app is emotion recognition through facial expressions using Affectiva’s SDK. Emotion AI plays the most significant role in our app and we believe that is the next step for technology.
We had already been working on the technology for six months when we came across Affectiva through the omniscient God we call the Internet. We realized the importance of this discovery very quickly and tried to get in touch with their team. Affectiva helped us in covering what would have taken us years to build. It became a very strong catalyst in the development of True Emoji as it stands today.
• An iOS app which reads facial expressions and incorporates it in emojis for text use
• Approach which upends digital communication, making it more humane and interactive
• True Emoji was awarded the Google Entrepreneurs Ascent Award, bringing home $20,000 in Google credits
• It influenced Apple to pick it up which was a major part of iPhone 10 launch attracting users to a use-case we had discovered and worked on.
• The innovation from True Emoji became the bedrock of Webbies, setting the benchmark for all future operations
We made search the centre piece of the entire system, one could navigate through categories by simply typing a comma (,) before it. A (.) full stop before a sub category. A slash (/) before a sub-sub category. They query within those set parameters. Making it super quick to get to any product
